Swinerton Renewable Energy Launches SOLV™, the Complete Solar Monitoring Solution

Swinerton Launches an Innovative Monitoring Platform Which Provides Comprehensive Management of Utility-Scale Solar Plants to Maximize Generation and Minimize Operating Costs

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 6, 2012) - Swinerton Renewable Energy, a leading builder in the solar utility industry, announced today that it has officially launched SOLV™, an innovative monitoring platform to manage all the operational needs of solar utility plants. Swinerton created SOLV™ to support their commitment to building the highest quality, most efficient solar plants possible for their customers. SOLV™ provides critical automation of service management, plant controls, advanced diagnostics, trend analysis, and custom reporting functions which are not available in traditional industry monitoring offerings.

Last year Swinerton Renewable Energy created a new division focused on operating and maintaining (O&M) solar utility plants being lead by industry-veteran, Joe Brotherton. "The key to running a successful solar utility site is to maximize income and minimize expense for our clients. To do that, we needed to streamline our service processes and remove expensive and error-prone manual intervention whenever possible," says Brotherton.

Swinerton is in a unique position to create such a platform and has already commissioned more than 40MW of utility solar plants. By the end of 2012, Swinerton will have built a dozen utility solar plants in the US and Canada, generating more than 160MW of solar energy, and has been contracted to run SOLV™ on all sites. After performing extensive evaluations of monitoring software products, Swinerton made the strategic decision to invest in a comprehensive O&M solution that would allow them to drive operational efficiency and provide competitive advantages for their customers.

Leveraging Best Industry Practices
To lead the initiative, Brotherton hired Elaine Wood, a seasoned high-tech software engineering manager and solar industry insider. "The solar industry can benefit tremendously by implementing best practices from other industries to automate diagnostics, manage service tickets, maintain assets, manage inventory, integrate vendor services, as well as providing custom analysis and reporting tools based on unique site power purchase and service agreements," Wood explains. "We built SOLV™ to provide such operational efficiencies, but we also built it to leverage valuable data to improve our own business intelligence and make better decisions related to site design, construction and operations to benefit our customers."

Managing Enterprise Needs of Solar Operations
SOLV™ makes the management of solar operations processes simple and easy. It manages the full lifecycle by providing seamless management and transition between seven outage resolution steps: Alarm Detection, Issue Identification, Personnel Notification, Response and Prioritization, Service Repair, Parts Management and Vendor Escalation. George Hershman, VP of Swinerton Renewable Energy explained, "We know that any delay in service resolution costs our clients money. That is not acceptable to us. Swinerton invested in SOLV™ to raise the bar in the industry. We have already made an impact by changing the focus from fault resolution to site optimization. The value is clear. The threes utility sites we manage have continually performed above expectations due to our high-quality building methods, diligent service practices and advanced diagnostics."

Although Swinerton originally intended to deploy SOLV™ on sites that it built, they are already being pushed to implement it into sites Swinerton did not construct. "We view that as a good problem to have," says Brotherton. "We will do whatever we can to make our clients successful."
