Swinton Expect Surge in Contents Claims Following Launch of New Motion Sensitive Controllers

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 9, 2011) - The new motion sensitive game controllers, launched by Nintendo Wii's main rivals Xbox and Playstation, will see an increase in people using this highly active gaming method to stay healthy, not knowing that these controllers can actually pose a health hazard – to their homes that is.

A survey of 1200 online customers carried out by the leading home insurance retailer Swinton discovered 16% of Nintendo Wii owners have damaged their property playing these games, with the trend likely to continue with the Xbox Kinect and Playstation Move.

Swinton Home Insurance expects an increase in accidental damage claims following the launch of these products and with a worrying 29% of respondents claiming not to know whether they have such cover on their policy, Swinton is advising homeowners who received motion sensitive controllers for Christmas to check their policies before it's too late.

The increase is perhaps unsurprising considering the average living area contains two meters of free space, and with games console manufacturers claiming a user needs just over three metres of free space to play safely, accidents are bound to happen.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager for Swinton Contents Insurance said: "Exercising indoors and playing these games is great fun and easy, but it's of paramount importance that anyone purchasing these games should ensure they have accidental damage cover on their contents policy to enable them to claim should an accident arise."

He added, "Contents cover through Swinton Insurance includes free accidental cover for audio, visual and computer equipment, but additional accidental cover can be purchased on top of a standard premium leaving gamers safe in the knowledge that they're protected".
