Swiss Utilities Plan Two New Nuclear Plants, an Industrial Info News Alert

GALWAY, IRELAND--(Marketwire - January 5, 2011) - Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) -- Three Swiss utilities have signed an agreement to press ahead with the planning and construction of two nuclear power plants in Switzerland.

After a period of intense negotiations, Axpo (Zurich, Switzerland), Alpiq Holding AG (Olten, Switzerland) and BKW FMB Energie AG (Bern, Switzerland) have agreed to join forces to build nuclear plants to replace older facilities that are nearing the ends of their operational lives. The plants are seen as essential to securing Switzerland's energy security and for greatly reducing the large amount of nuclear power the country has to import from neighbouring France.
