Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in the Heart of Circular Quay Announces 20 Million Dollar Refurbishment

The Sydney 5-Star CBD Hotel's First Stage of Renovations to Be Completed in April

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - Apr 25, 2011) - The five-star Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in Circular Quay is set to redefine premium, waterfront accommodation with the launch of a 20 million dollar refurbishment that is due for first-stage completion in April 2011.

The objective of the multi-million dollar project is to deliver a higher standard of accommodation for the leisure and business traveller alike. The first stage (to be completed by April) includes all 550 accommodation suites. The second stage, which will incorporate Icons Brasserie, Macquarie Lounge, and a full facelift of all public areas, including the Sydney conference venues, is scheduled for September 2011.

The 5-star Sydney CBD hotel's new features include large 42" flat screen LCD televisions in every room, as well as high speed wireless internet and an iPod docking station. Each room is designed to encapsulate the stunning surrounds of the hotel, placing particular focus on the city, harbour and Opera House views. Sydney is renowned for its bright and intense natural light; the new guest room design begins with a clean, almost white, palette to accentuate the natural light that pours in from a window with unobstructed views toward the Sydney harbour or city centre. The use of blue and punches of red are balanced with a light space to create a fresh, smart, and modern scheme.

Artwork and graphic patterns bring a local contemporary style to an internationally branded Sydney conference venue. Bold patterns, referencing the distinctive Morton-bay fig tree, seen in the neighbouring Botanical Gardens, are found in the throw cushions and carpets. The printed artworks on the walls created by young graphic designers, artists and architects depict graphic interpretations of Sydney maps.

Renowned Architecture Firm Brings New Look to Downtown Sydney Hotel
Sydney Harbour Marriott owner representative, John Van der Wallen of Colonial First State, partnered with leading design and architecture firm CHADA to create the new look under architect Michael Watson. Formerly Chhada Siembieda Australia, CHADA is an internationally recognized name in corporate and hospitality design, boasting a portfolio of work across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, and Hong Kong.

Sydney Harbour Marriott General Manager, Jennifer Brown, has said: "We are thrilled to offer our guests an exciting and fresh experience through our newly designed rooms that incorporate state of the art technology to suit both our business and leisure travellers. We believe our Sydney 5-star CBD hotel's new experience captures the essence of Sydney -- a vibrant, contemporary Harbour-side city."

Downtown Sydney Hotel's Partnerships to Redefine Event Planning in the City
The hotel also announced its partnership with Crystal Palace at Luna Park this month -- 'Quay Events' -- which is set to provide an unbeatable option for Sydney event planning. An alliance that is predicted to attract and retain clients for both partners, Quay Events' unique selling point is that delegates will be transferred across the harbour between the conference at Luna Park and their hotel room in Circular Quay by ferry.

With resources to cater for groups of 10 or 2,000, the partnership presents organisers with an easy package that includes accommodation, transport and venue. The experienced Quay Events by Marriott team is supported by world-class facilities, state-of-the-art technology and flexible spaces that can be tailored to your exact needs -- whatever the size.
