SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting a Beacon for NASCAR Hauler Drivers on Their Cross Country Treks

Fourth Annual 'Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights' Initiative Encourages Road Safety

LOUDON, NH--(Marketwired - Sep 20, 2013) -  NASCAR® fans may travel from near and far to attend a race and feel the rush of 43 stock cars circling the track at up to 200 miles per hour, but the haulers that carry those 3,400 pound machines, along with all the parts necessary to compete in the Sprint Cup Series, log even more time on the open roads -- upwards of 70,000 miles according to media reports. Being a hauler driver is a full-time job and many spend the majority of their time behind the wheel after dark or at dusk and have to be ready to battle less than ideal conditions like rain, sleet, fog and dark winding roads.

As the title sponsor for the 11th consecutive year of the SYLVANIA 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS), North American lighting leader OSRAM SYLVANIA certainly knows the magnitude of transporting such valuable cargo in the darkness of night. Through SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting's "Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights" initiative, NASCAR haulers are provided with SYLVANIA SilverStar® ULTRA headlights, offering hauler drivers a higher level of visibility and safety during nighttime driving. With 20 different states in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, navigating a hauler from track to track can be challenging.

The fourth annual "Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights" initiative kicked off in July at NHMS and came full circle on Thursday, Sept. 19, when the haulers made their debut into the infield for the weekend SYLVANIA 300 race.

"NASCAR continues to focus on safety, and we love that we are able to do our part to keep the team haulers safe off the track between race weekends with SYLVANIA SilverStar ULTRA headlights," said Brian Noble, marketing manager for SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting. "These high-performance headlight bulbs improve downroad and sideroad visibility with whiter, brighter light, which is important for safe nighttime driving."

"NASCAR drivers race on tracks from New Hampshire to Phoenix, from Miami to northern California and everywhere in between. Once the race is over, the hauler drivers must navigate roads and highways back to the team shop -- mostly at night and early in the morning -- in preparation for the next event," said Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition for NASCAR. "We appreciate how this initiative has helped us keep all of our NASCAR teams and equipment safer on the road."

"We have used SYLVANIA headlights for many years on the road during NASCAR seasons," said Frank Hodel, who drives the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing transporter more than 55,000 miles per year. "It's a good feeling knowing my visibility is maximized for the many long nights heading home after races and trips from coast to coast."

"SYLVANIA has the best headlights on the road, and a bunch of guys like me rely on them throughout the year," added Jeff Craven, driver of the #31 Richard Childress Racing hauler. "We put a lot of miles on these trucks and encounter every type of weather there is. Rain or shine, day or night, my visibility is never compromised with SYLVANIA headlights."

SYLVANIA SilverStar ULTRA headlights can provide up to 50 percent greater brightness over worn standard bulbs, which can sometimes equate to as much as 50 to 100 feet more visibility at night. The addition of whiter, brighter headlights can help increase a driver's ability to react to distractions or hazards on the road.

The SYLVANIA 300 will again be the second race of the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, a 300-lap event on the "Magic Mile." For more information about the SYLVANIA 300, visit For more information from OSRAM SYLVANIA on improving driving visibility, visit
