Symantec Backup Exec 10d for Windows Named Best Backup Solution by Partners and Customers

(NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced its Backup Exec 10d for Windows software was named a Best Midmarket Product of the Year by CMP Media's VARBusiness magazine; received two Redmond magazine 2006 Readers' Choice Awards; and won "Best of Show" honors at the Computing Technology Industry Association's (CompTIA) annual Breakaway 2006 and CT Summit conferences.

VARBusiness Magazine's Best Midmarket Product of the Year

VARBusiness magazine's special "Best of the Midmarket" issue named Symantec Backup Exec 10d For Windows one of the Best Midmarket Products of the Year in the storage category. VARBusiness magazine, published biweekly, provides strategic insight to technology integrators solicited input from information technology (IT) vendors and solution providers to determine which products and services were best for midmarket customers -- companies with between 100 and 999 employees. Entries were considered and reviewed by VARBusiness editors who selected only 45 of the more than 350 nominated products.

The two products garnered a combined 53 percent of the readers' votes for Best Backup System and 39 percent of readers' votes for Best Disaster Recovery.

Computing Technology Industry Association Breakaway Award

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading trade association for the global information technology (IT) industry, recently recognized 13 companies, including Symantec, that have demonstrated creativity, innovation, and leadership in the technology sector.

The 13 organizations were recognized with "best of show" awards at the CompTIA Breakaway 2006 and CT Summit conferences held in August in Orlando, Fla. Award winners were selected based on the voting of some 300 VIP value-added resellers and technology solution providers who participated in the two conferences.
