Symantec Joins VMware Alliance Affiliate Initiative

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - September 15, 2008) - VMworld 2008 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced that it is participating in the VMware Alliance Affiliate Initiative, a global co-marketing initiative that includes technology alliance partners from a broad range of technology sectors. Through its participation in the initiative, Symantec will provide its partners with the tools they need to more effectively protect and manage customer information in virtual and physical environments.

Symantec will offer reseller partners special training, tools and financial incentives to help them capitalize on the market opportunity for industry-leading security and data protection products that support VMware virtualization. These benefits are designed to provide additional profitability for Symantec partners and reward them for creating complete solutions for their customers. The offering will initially be available to Symantec partners in North America and EMEA, with other regions to follow.

Symantec's virtualization solutions provide industry-leading infrastructure capabilities that support VMware and all major server virtualization platforms. Symantec Solutions for VMware virtualization set the standard for managing heterogeneous virtual and physical environments in enterprise data centers, delivering best-in-class functionality and security.

Today, Symantec also announced the latest version of its market-leading Backup Exec family of products. Backup Exec 12.5 includes the company's award-winning virtualization technology to allow organizations to easily manage and automate their data and systems in a physical and virtual environment through one simplified solution. With this new support for virtualization, Backup Exec provides comprehensive data protection for VMware Infrastructure, Microsoft Hyper-V and conventional physical systems from a single console, thereby dramatically reducing cost and improving management of multiple virtual and physical systems.
