Symphony Technology Group Appoints Marshall Haines Managing Director as Firm Steps Up Investing Pace

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - January 28, 2011) - Symphony Technology Group (STG), a leading private equity firm focused on investing in software and technology-enabled services companies, today announced that it has hired Marshall Haines as Managing Director. Haines, who joins STG from Williston Financial Group, where he was Chief Operating Officer, will focus on sourcing and executing investments as STG begins to increase its investment pace.

"Marshall brings a broad base of private equity investing experience to STG, as well as a thorough operating background in the financial services, processing and technology industries," said Romesh Wadhwani, Chairman, CEO and founder of STG. "Over the years, STG has built a strong track record investing in and through operational excellence, transforming our portfolio companies. This includes financial services company Capco, which we sold last year for a solid return, and others such as Teleca, a software and services company in the mobile space, which we first invested in during 2008, and is growing very aggressively as the market for mobile devices explodes. We're looking to Marshall to help us continue to identify companies where we can partner to make them even better."

Haines joins STG from Williston Financial Group. Haines also spent five years with TPG Capital's San Francisco office, where he was a Principal. During this period, he led deals in the areas of financial and technology enabled services.

Prior to his position with TPG Capital, Haines was a Principal with Bain Capital, Inc., in both Boston and San Francisco. During his 10 years with Bain, he worked on deals in multiple market sectors including technology, healthcare and distribution.

"Much of my career has focused on developing and leading investments in the areas of technology and financial services companies where technology plays a pivotal role," said Marshall Haines. "I'm excited to use my nearly 20 years of experience to identify and lead investments in companies that are ripe for STG's unique approach to operations transformation."

Haines has an MBA degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
