Synapse Wireless Joins IPSO Alliance

SNAP Network Operating System Fuels Rising Momentum for Machine Connectivity to Internet

HUNTSVILLE, AL--(Marketwire - February 10, 2011) - Synapse Wireless® today announced it has become a Contributor member of the Internet Protocol for Smart Objects Alliance (IPSO). By joining IPSO, Synapse will increase the growing awareness of its SNAP Network Operating System's native ability to connect with the Internet today -- a key underpinning of the Alliance. Synapse's SNAP architecture combines an open source application development environment with the ability to run on any network layer and will provide a seamless transition path to IPV6.

The IPSO Alliance, the organization defining the "Internet of Things," is a non-profit, open association of organizations and individuals that promote the value of using the Internet Protocol for the networking of Smart Objects.

"We welcome Synapse to the growing family of champions for connecting machines to the Internet," said Geoff Mulligan, chairman of the IPSO Alliance. "Synapse's SNAP OS brings significant, enabling functionality for smart objects to easily connect to the Internet, as well as ensuring their compatibility with future expansions, such as the advent of IPv6."

Synapse's SNAP network operating system is a portable, interoperable solution that supports multi-vendor microprocessors for embedding intelligent, wireless communication in devices. SNAP keeps cost low because it can run on 8-bit processors using less than 64K bytes of memory, yet can also run on high performance 32-bit ARMs. SNAP can run on any physical or network layer and supports a wide range of network standards, radio frequencies and bandwidths. An embedded Python interpreter runs applications while shielding the complexity of the network from the developer. This makes the task of programming embedded machines easy while supporting distributed computing via the Internet. A growing library of open source applications can be freely accessed at

"Joining IPSO is a natural step for us," said Wade Patterson, Synapse CEO. "The Internet has proven itself to be a reliable, scalable and pervasive technology that can rapidly accommodate expanding machine connectivity and enable new, intelligent functionality at the edge of the network. Our SNAP OS was designed from its inception to allow smart objects to communicate via the Internet and we look forward to working with IPSO as the new emerging IPV6 standards unfold."

As a Contributor member Synapse Wireless may participate in meetings and committees, use the Alliance's technical guidelines and case studies, and demonstrate their products at meetings, trade shows and other Alliance events. Synapse will also be able to qualify their products and services in the interoperability program.

Synapse's wireless technology is being used in lighting control, energy management, asset tracking, medical, military -- in almost any application that requires remote monitoring and control of machines, sensors or processes. Synapse products are available on Future Electronics' web site; visit:
