About ALS

Commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease or ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a fatal neurological disorder that affects thousands of Americans each year, causing paralysis through the progressive death of motor neurons. Thirty thousand Americans have ALS, and 250,000 Americans alive today will eventually die from the disease. Although ALS mainly affects patients over 50, it can strike at any age. There currently is no known cure.

About ALS Foundation for Life

The ALS Foundation for Life was founded by Frank Carlson, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2001 at the age of 27. The Foundation's goal is to raise awareness of the disease and to help improve the quality of life for the men and women in the region who are struggling with ALS on a daily basis. While Carlson lost his battle with ALS in 2004, his memory and mission remain alive through the Foundation. Recently the ALS Foundation for Life partnered with the ALS Association, Massachusetts Chapter, to provide assistance to patients on a local level.
