Syscan Files for Patent Protection on New Anti-Colission Reader

MONTREAL, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 12, 2005) - Syscan International Inc. (TSX VENTURE:SYA) announced today that it has filed for patent protection on a newly developed anti-collision RFID reader. The new reader employs Syscan's spatial anti-collision methodology which combines the bundling of antennae and their respective signals in a specific way that isolates an individual tag's signal from those of adjacent tags, in order to enable accurate reads that are unhindered by signal interference from other closely associated tags. The collision of radio signals has long been a hindrance to the adoption of RFID technology in a wide variety of commercial applications.

There are a number of significant disadvantages to current day interrogator driven anti-collision technology due to the fact that as the number of tags in a restricted field increases, the time to read all of the tags grows exponentially and in some cases reads become impossible. As a result, RFID applications have been prevented from becoming a viable option in a multitude of commercial environments. In many instances, RFID users are obligated to purchase and employ the use of anti-collision protocol tags that are traditionally much more expensive than ordinary read-only tags, thereby adding thousands of dollars to the cost of the application. In other situations at considerable cost, users are forced to purchase multiple readers to solve the problem. Syscan's new technology now enables users to employ a much more economical method to read ordinary tags that can now be located as little as several millimetres apart.

Mr. Axel Striefler, President and CEO of Syscan said, "We are very excited about what we believe to be a significant development that will encourage the adoption of RFID in a substantial number of commercial applications. Our new technology will most definitely facilitate the use of RFID based solutions in a much wider spectrum at significantly lower costs."
