Sysomos Co-Founder Nick Koudas Honoured as Inventor of the Year

University of Toronto Recognizes Innovative Platform for Real-Time Monitoring of Social Media

TORONTO--(Marketwire - March 10, 2011) - Sysomos President and Co-founder Dr. Nick Koudas was honoured at the University of Toronto's inaugural "Inventor of the Year" awards on March 7, 2011 and, together with eight of his peers, was recognized for inventions with a significant level of uniqueness, global impact and commercial appeal. Launched by the University's Innovations and Partnerships Office (IPO), the awards recognize inventors or teams of inventors from the University who have made a significant contribution to its innovation agenda.

The event recognized accomplishments in Biomedical and Life Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences, and the category in which Koudas was honored, Information and Computer Technology/Social Sciences and Humanities. Dr. Koudas, along with co-inventor Nilesh Bansal, developed a tool to enable real-time monitoring of social media: blogs, social networks and micro-blogging services, forums, video sites and media sources via sophisticated data mining and content aggregation technology.

Dr. Koudas is a professor at the University of Toronto's Department of Computer & Mathematical Sciences.
