SYSTEMPOOL Achieves Recycled Content Certification for Recycled Acrylic in Its KRION® Nature Lux Series

Third Party Review by SCS Global Services Confirms Recycled Content Claims

EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 7, 2014) - SCS Global Services (SCS), a leader in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, announced that it has certified the recycled content in KRION® Nature Lux Series, a new generation solid surface material manufactured by SYSTEMPOOL. This adaptable material is used in a wide array of applications, including kitchens, bathrooms, interior decorations, restaurants, public areas, ventilated facades, and healthcare facilities.

KRION® Nature Lux is constituted from natural minerals and acrylic, a high-resistance resin. The SCS certification focused on the acrylic portion, which constitutes less than half of the product by weight. The certification confirmed two recycled content claims, with each percentage stated in terms of the total product by weight:

1) Minimum 12% Pre-Consumer Acrylic (for KRION® Ash Nature, Crystal White, Grey Nature, Bright Rock, Clear Nature, and Camel Nature)
2) Minimum 6% Pre-Consumer Acrylic (for KRION® White Nature, Marfil Nature, Bright Concrete, Crystal White+, Polar Stone, Earth Nature, and Dune Nature)

In 2013, SYSTEMPOOL recovered and recycled more than 120 tons of acrylic scrap waste for production of the KRION® Nature Lux Series. This is equivalent in volume to the amount of acrylic found in over 45,000 gallons of acrylic paint.

"By reprocessing and recycling internal trimmings and scrap material SYSTEMPOOL is reducing the need for virgin material and avoiding a potential waste stream," said Alicia Godlove, Materials Manager for SCS Global Services. "This is important since acrylic plastic does not break down readily and once disposed of can remain in the environment for a long time."

According to SYSTEMPOOL, KRION® offers a number of exclusive features: it does not have any pores, it is anti-bacterial, it is hard-wearing, highly resistant, easy to repair, requires minimum maintenance and is easy to clean. KRION® can also be thermoformed together to create curved and continuous pieces with no seams or joints. Its many uses include washbasins, vanities, counter tops, shower columns, cubicles, bathtubs, shower decks, tables and many more applications.

"As a company, SYSTEMPOOL is committed to a thorough environmental management system that covers a range of issues facing our industry, including pollution, waste, climate change, and ecological quality," said Vicente Serrano, Quality & Environment Manager. "The SCS Recycled Content certification of our KRION® Nature Lux Series is the latest independent verification of our environmental achievements and we are proud to share this with our customers."
