T-System Honors Five Hospitals With National Award for Emergency Department Excellence

Winning Healthcare Organizations Demonstrate How ED Solutions Help Meet Industry Challenges

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - Sep 27, 2011) - T-System, Inc. today announced the five winners of its second annual T-System Client Excellence Awards, chosen from more than 1,700 facilities nationwide that have implemented its paper documentation and electronic health record solutions. The award recognizes hospitals that have partnered with T-System most effectively to improve the quality of patient care, operational processes and financial results in the emergency department (ED).

These awards celebrate more than just the benefits received by one hospital department. The ED plays a key role in unscheduled patient care and is a vital care transition and information hub when it comes to coordinating care with the broader community."

The top five ED performers demonstrated excellence in five key areas: optimizing patient care quality, innovation in patient access, attaining Meaningful Use with computerized provider order entry (CPOE), achieving operational efficiency and financial optimization. The winners include:

  • Ashtabula County Medical Center (Ashtabula, Ohio): With T-System solutions, the hospital has improved the capture of core measures and overall patient care quality. For the past two years, it received the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award from HealthGrades for performing in the top 5 percent in low patient mortality rates.
  • Mason General Hospital (Shelton, Wash.): Using T SystemEV® and HL7 data streams, Mason General Hospital is able to provide patients with a convenient way to access and share their health information. It created a portal that allows patients to pre-register for ED visits, access and share visit summaries online and download the information to personal health records.
  • Montrose Memorial Hospital (Montrose, Colo.): This hospital will be among the country's first hospitals to attest to Stage 1 Meaningful Use, achieved in part through the use of CPOE in the ED. Montrose Memorial Hospital was recently selected to present its Meaningful Use strategy at the 2011 HIMSS Virtual Conference & Expo on Nov. 2.
  • Osceola Regional Medical Center (Kissimmee, Fla.): Despite seeing a 20 percent increase in ED visits during the past three years, the hospital improved its average length of stay for discharged patients by 36 percent and for admitted patients by 40 percent.
  • PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center (Bellingham, Wash.): Through a focused effort on process improvement and ED automation, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center has achieved an overall revenue improvement of $1.1 million annually.

As part of the award recognition, T-System will make a donation to a hospital foundation or charity on behalf of the organization. Winners of the 2011 T-System Client Excellence Awards will also receive a commemorative plaque and special recognition at the 2012 T-System linkED user conference.
