Tactical Communications Group Announces Major New DIS Simulation Capabilities and Support for Windows 7 Within TCG TDL Product Line

Immediate Availability of Major New Product Enhancements Positions TCG Well for Continued Leadership and Growth in Global Data Link Test, Training and Simulation Markets

TEWKSBURY, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 27, 2012) - Tactical Communications Group (TCG), the leading independent provider of tactical data link (TDL) software solutions for military test, training, simulation and operational applications worldwide, today announced successful completion of a major new simulation product enhancement initiative resulting in significantly improved testing and DIS simulation capabilities, as well as support for Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, allowing TCG to continue to meet the needs of its global military customer base.

With the successful completion of these new product enhancements, TCG now provides a significantly enhanced Distributed Interactive Simulation ("DIS") capability featuring support for Entity State ("ES") Protocol Data Units ("PDU"). DIS is an IEEE standard that allows dissimilar simulations, typically military in nature, to efficiently and effectively exchange information over a network as they each execute their respective scenarios. With this new, major DIS ES PDU product enhancement, TCG's BOSS and GTS products will be able to, among other things:

  • Exchange simulated Link 16 communications from a DIS network with a live Link 16 network.

  • Translate Link 16 units, targets and surveillance tracks to DIS ES PDU's.

  • Process simulated DIS entities, representing objects produced by flight simulators, radar simulators, ground vehicle simulators, and ballistic missile defense simulators, then translate them into Link 16 surveillance tracks which can be forwarded onto a live Link 16 network using either BOSS or GTS.

  • Provide a gateway to supplement live testing and training with virtual data elements, and also supplement simulated testing and training with live assets, thereby providing various degrees of support for LVC simulation and training.

These new DIS ES PDU capabilities are now available from TCG and will be on display in Booth 2719 at the I/ITSEC Modeling, Simulation and Training Conference being held from December 3rd to December 6th in Orlando Florida.

In addition, effective immediately, TCG's market-leading products are now also available on the Windows 7 operating system. The Microsoft Windows 7 operating system helps provide greater security and manageability for local and remote computers while improving on the fundamentals of performance and reliability. With improved safeguards, anti-phishing features, encrypting, and richer built-in trouble shooting, Windows 7 is a more robust operating system which has achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4. Common Criteria certification is an international standard for ensuring that IT products conform to stringent security requirements and is a mandatory procurement requirement for U.S. defense and national security customers. The U.S. DOD and many international military entities are now quickly moving to Windows 7, and TCG's new support for Windows 7 will allow TCG to continue to meet the increased performance and security needs of its global military customer base.

"We are very pleased to announce these major new product capabilities," said Frank Newark, TCG's Vice President of Engineering. "With distributed data link testing and simulation increasing as a result of today's constrained budgetary environment, and with this testing becoming increasingly complex in nature, our military customers need comprehensive, complete solutions which enable them to accomplish their critical missions. With these major new product enhancements available, our customers can now more efficiently integrate BOSS and GTS into the distributed simulation environment, allowing them to efficiently execute highly complex simulated testing initiatives. These new BOSS and GTS capabilities thus provide our customers with increased modeling and simulated testing efficacy, significantly enhanced technical capabilities, and ultimately, the potential for considerable cost savings."
