Tahltan Nation Development Corporation Announces New Vice President of Business Development

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Feb. 17, 2015) - The Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ryan Franke as vice president, business development. He assumes the role from Mr. Bill Adsit, who will continue to work with TNDC in the role of senior advisor through an extended transition period to support TNDC's business development and strategic growth. Mr. Franke has extensive experience in management, business and community engagement in the natural resource sector and will work with Mr. Adsit in the year ahead to fully understand the TNDC business model and solidify relationships with the company's industry and business partners.

"Ryan Franke is an excellent choice for this important position. He brings valuable knowledge and experience through past positions with the Tahltan Band as band manager and with Shell Canada in public engagement, which will help TNDC grow our business, expand our service model and establish relationships with industry and partners to foster responsible resource development that benefits the Tahltan Nation," said Mr. Garry Merkel, CEO/president of TNDC.

Mr. Franke most recently served as the band manager for the Tahltan Band and prior to that was responsible for public engagement with Shell Canada in communities across Northern BC. He also brings a keen understanding of the dynamics of the local communities through board positions with TNDC and the Tahltan Health and Social Services Authority, which will help to bridge the needs of industry and community. Mr. Franke served four years on TNDC's board from 2010 to 2014; the first three years as a board member and the last year as vice chair.

"I am also pleased we can also continue to draw on the immense knowledge, experience and reputation of Bill Adsit in his new role of senior advisor, providing strategic guidance on business development and industry and partner relations, supporting TNDC and Ryan in his new role," said Mr. Merkel. "TNDC's success is a testament to the strategic business partnerships and mutually beneficial relationships Bill established over 10 years, which has helped the company generate annual multi-million dollar revenue, become the largest employer in the region and expand TNDC's service capabilities to all aspects of industrial and resource development."

Mr. Adsit served as president and chief executive officer of TNDC from 2004 to 2013, then as vice president, business development from January 2014 after transitioning towards retirement. During his tenure, Mr. Adsit established more than 25 joint venture partnerships and structured several business ventures. Prior to TNDC, he served 38 years with the federal government including the Canadian military, Transport Canada, Revenue Canada and Industry Canada. Mr. Adsit is also a director on the BC Hydro board and serves on two of its standing committees.

As the business arm of the Tahltan Nation, TNDC forms new business partnerships selectively with a focus on long-term, mutually beneficial and respectful arrangements that grow its business model and provide opportunities for Tahltan people.

"I extend a warm welcome to Ryan to the TNDC team and my appreciation to Bill for his continued involvement with TNDC," Merkel said. "I am confident we have a strong leadership team that will continue advancing TNDC in our goal to be the leading business corporation and employer of Tahltan members in Tahltan territory."
