Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs Signs Operation and Transfer Agreement With Kaohsiung Exhibition Center Corporation

Asia's Newest Iconic MICE Venue to Open in April 2014

TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - Aug 20, 2013) - Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, and Michael Tu, Chairman of Kaohsiung Exhibition Center Corporation, formally signed the Operation and Transfer Agreement for the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (KEC) in Taipei on Aug.19. The ceremony confirms Kaohsiung Exhibition Center Corporation's role as the operator of the venue and sets the stage for KEC's grand opening on April 14, 2014.

"KEC will be a state-of-the-art attraction and hub for international trade, regional industries, and tourism," said Deputy Minister Liang. With an investment of $NT 3 billion (USD$100 million) in this latest MICE venue, the Government plans to position Kaohsiung as the newest and most attractive gateway of commerce to and within Asia.

Kaohsiung Exhibition Center Corporation is a subsidiary of Uniplan Taiwan, which was the first foreign-invested corporation in the convention and exhibition industry approved by the Investment Commission of Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan. "Our global resources and expertise in analyzing, organizing, promoting, and executing shows and events, such as the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games and 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition, demonstrate our strengths in building a multi-functional trade platform," noted Chairman Tu. The company's vision for KEC is not only as a robust hub for business opportunities but also as a showcase for the city of Kaohsiung. Strategically perched on the southern tip of Taiwan, Kaohsiung enjoys a year-round sub-tropical climate. Combined with the modern amenities of Taiwan's second largest city, the result is a bustling, comfortable and very attractive venue for business travel.

The Only Waterfront Venue for MICE in Taiwan
KEC is strategically located next to Kaohsiung Port, one of the largest in the world. As a business hub in "Asia's New Bay Area," KEC will open up business opportunities for trade among manufacturers in northeast Asia with the rest of the world. With its easy accessibility by air, sea, and hi-speed rail, KEC is expected to attract a whole new wave of business and leisure travel in Asia.

The Biggest MICE Venue in Southern Taiwan
KEC is the only multi-functional international trade venue in Southern Taiwan. Its capacity, versatility, and functionality have already begun to create popular demand for its upcoming line up of shows. Now entering the final build-out phase, KEC will hold its grand opening on April 14, 2014. The first show scheduled is the "2014 Taiwan International Fastener Show," followed by the first ever "Taiwan International Boat Show," slated for May 8-11, 2014.

State-of-the-Art Exhibition Space and Conference Rooms
KEC is equipped with spacious indoor and outdoor exhibition areas congregated on the ground floor. The indoor exhibition space, which accommodates 1100 booths in total, is divided into two halls -- North and South. The South Hall is an imposing show ground with a column-free design, 50 meters in width and 27 meters in height. The 400-booth outdoor seafront space for exhibitions and activities is one of KEC's main focal points. It will inspire and drive a multitude of outdoor event possibilities. KEC's conference rooms can accommodate events ranging from 20 to 2000 people, with a total capacity of up to 4,000 persons at any one time. One of the conference rooms, Room 302, overlooks the ocean, providing an unparalleled environment for meetings, concerts, as well as banquets.
