Taleo Launches Brand Campaign to Tell Businesses: 'Talent Intelligence Knows'

Ads That Combine Humanity and Insight to Show How Talent Intelligence Drives Business Success

DUBLIN, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 3, 2011) - Taleo Corporation (NASDAQ: TLEO), the global leader of SaaS-based Talent Management solutions, today launched a global brand campaign designed to position talent intelligence as a vital competitive advantage for business. With talent intelligence, companies achieve a deeper understanding of candidates and employees so managers can make smarter and more insightful talent decisions that drive business success.

In ads that break today in The Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek, Taleo is introducing a new tagline, TALENT INTELLIGENCE KNOWS. The tagline presents talent intelligence as the answer for companies seeking to unlock the power of their people.

Taleo worked with New York boutique ad agency Grok to develop the concept and creative for the campaign, which will anchor print and online ads, at tradeshows, and in videos and webinars. The ad series uses a familiar icon -- the employee ID tag -- to communicate a problem only talent intelligence can solve. For instance, the full-page ad in today's Wall Street Journal shows a smiling ID photo of an EVP of Operations whose tag describes him as a "dream candidate" turned "total nightmare." The copy below the photo asks readers, "Do you know your employees? Really know them?" Another ad presents the opposite problem -- a great employee passed over for a promotion is now "enjoying a steak dinner with your biggest competitor."

The ads then deliver Taleo's brand promise by describing how the company's Talent Management solutions give organizations the insights, or talent intelligence, they need to attract and retain the best people. "After all," the ads conclude, "the business with the best people wins."

Taleo's first-ever branding campaign breaks new ground in the Talent Management category by speaking directly to business decision-makers. While these individuals benefit most from talent intelligence, they have long been a secondary target for Talent Management vendors, whose products are usually sold to corporate HR executives. Taleo also distinguishes its branding efforts from competitors by employing a playful edge: One awful employee is found to have "gone rogue," while another faces a task so daunting she may need CPR.

"Today we're rolling out our first major branding effort ever to communicate Taleo's thought leadership position in an increasingly crowded and competitive market," said Heidi Melin, Taleo's executive vice president and chief marketing officer. "The campaign combines smart, strategic insights with a surprising and deceptively simple idea. Familiar icons and situations educate managers about the benefits of talent intelligence while reinforcing Taleo's ability to deliver it. Taleo's tagline is TALENT INTELLIGENCE KNOWS. After today, a lot more business leaders will know Taleo."

Along with its focus on line-of-business managers -- an ad will also appear in the November issue of Harvard Business Review and airport signage may roll out early next year -- Taleo isn't ignoring the core market for Talent Management solutions. The new branding package is a prominent part of Taleo's presence at the HR Technology Conference & Expo this week, and the ads will appear on leading online HR news outlets including and Taleo plans to broaden the branding campaign beyond North America to markets European markets early next year.

In addition to Grok as the lead agency, Taleo's branding partners include TargetCast tcm for interactive media and Acsys Interactive for digital content creative.
