Tampa Veterinarian Takes Holistic Approach to Pet Wellness Care

TAMPA, FL--(Marketwire - Jan 29, 2012) - Dr. Timothy Hodge of Cross Creek Animal Medical Centre in Tampa utilizes a holistic, or integrated, approach to providing Tampa pet care. Dr. Hodge combines modern western veterinary technology with the traditional Chinese veterinary medicine practices of acupuncture, herbal therapy and food therapy. The veterinarian feels it is important for the animal hospital to offer this complementary medicine approach because it provides pet owners with more options for pet healthcare. He integrates these alternative treatment methods into treatment programs to provide an all-natural support mechanism to the veterinary services offered at the clinic.

Dr. Hodge has been serving local pet healthcare needs since 1995. Commenting on his integrated approach to pet health, he said, "Some pet owners are surprised to meet a veterinarian who offers acupuncture or herbal therapy, so I explain that this approach allows us to offer the best of both worlds at our animal hospital. If their pet has an illness or injury, we can treat it with the latest in Western medicine and technology. Sometimes pets don't respond well to those therapies or may experience potentially serious side effects that concern the pet owner. That's when I'm happy to offer this traditional form of medicine as an alternative. Once they understand its benefits, pet owners are happy to know it's available."

As part of his Tampa pet wellness care program, Dr. Hodge may recommend acupuncture as an alternative method of relieving pain. According to Dr. Hodge, "As with humans, geriatric pets may experience the effects of arthritis, reducing their ability to run, jump, and play. We have found acupuncture and holistic care to help improve the quality of life of pets with chronic conditions."

The veterinarian said he may also recommend acupuncture for animals undergoing pet surgery or pet dental treatments at the animal hospital, to reduce anxiety and improve their body's ability to heal. Chinese herbal therapy may be recommended for pain relief in place of prescription pain killers, or for skin diseases, digestive disorders, and food allergies, said the vet. "We may also prescribe herbal therapy to counter the effects of chemotherapy or other surgical procedures. Many pets today are also experiencing the negative effects of poor nutrition and animal obesity," stated Dr. Hodge.

In addition to traditional and Chinese veterinary services, the Centre offers laser surgery, pet dermatology, cardiology, neurology and internal medicine. Pet boarding is available for pets that are recovering from procedures, or while pet owners are traveling. Pet grooming is also provided to enhance pets' appearance and promote healthy skin.
