Tanzania-Midlands Minerals Corporation Granted A Three Year Prospecting License In The Shinyanga District

TORONTO, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 12, 2005) - Kim Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Midlands Minerals Corporation (TSX VENTURE:MEX) ("Midlands" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that on May 2, 2005, the company was granted a Prospecting Licence (PL) for gold exploration in Tanzania. The PL is valid for a period of three years and is renewable thereafter for a further three years.

The new PL No. 3192/2005 is 16.45 square kilometres and is located about 18 kilometres south-east of Shinyanga along the NW-SE trend with Geita-Bulyanhulu-Itilima-Sekenke.

Tanzanian mining laws require companies to shed ground upon the renewal of prospecting licences. This new PL represents ground which was shed by the Itilima Mining Company in November 2004 under PL 1406/99 upon the Second Renewal of the prospecting licence. The new licence is part of the Company's Itilima Gold and Diamond project in Tanzania.

The Itilima Project is in the Lake Victoria Goldfields, one of the world's greatest gold mining districts. Approximately 40 million oz of gold have been discovered within a 120 kilometer radius of Midlands' property. 19 million carats of diamonds have been mined just 20 kilometers north of the Itilima, at the Williamson Mwadui open pit mine since the late 1940s. Major companies in the area include Barrick Gold Corporation, AngloGold Ashanti, De Beers and Placer Dome.

A map of the Lake Victoria Goldfield region is available on CCNMatthews' website at the following address: http://www2.ccnmatthews.com/database/fax/2000/lakevictoria.jpg

The Company has been undertaking an MMI soil geochemistry program which will be completed at the end of August 2005. RC Drilling was initiated in April 2004, and further drilling is planned for October 2005.

Midlands Minerals Corporation holds other prospecting licences in Tanzania and has two gold properties in Ghana as follows: Kwahu Praso located on the north-east end on the Ashanti Gold Belt and surrounded by Newmont Mining Company properties, and Kaniago Concession located on the Asankrangwa Gold Belt and contiguous to Resolute Mining's Obotan Mine.
