Tarari Collaborates With Microsoft to Accelerate Microsoft Expression Media Encoder

Tarari Solution Achieves Unprecedented Video Publishing Efficiencies for Microsoft Silverlight-Based Environments

LAS VEGAS, NV -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 16, 2007 -- Tarari, Inc., the leader in deep content inspection and acceleration silicon, today announced a collaboration with Microsoft around the newly unveiled technology for rich media experiences, Microsoft Silverlight (previously called Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere) and the Microsoft Expression Media Encoder. Tarari, working closely with Microsoft, has extended their solution to take advantage of Silverlight and the hardware-assisted encoding of the Tarari Encoder Accelerator boards. Using the newly optimized Tarari Encoder Accelerator boards, Expression Media Encoder is able to produce video content up to 15 times faster than a software-only solution.

"Tarari's technology increases productivity and production capacity of content creators delivering media experiences using the industry leading VC-1 standard," said Jim Wilson, CTO Microsoft Technologies of Tarari. "Our optimization with Expression Media Encoder will accelerate the rich media capabilities of Silverlight and help power entirely new video experiences online."

"Preparing video for distribution online can be a time intensive process. Tarari has created a powerful hardware solution to help optimize this for Silverlight-based experiences," said Forest Key, director of User Experience and Web Platform at Microsoft Corp. "Tarari Encoder Accelerator boards provide tremendous efficiencies for video encoding using the Expression Media Encoder. This ultimately enables content providers to quickly and easily deploy Silverlight video experiences that can scale from HD to mobile."

Microsoft Expression Media Encoder, a feature of Microsoft Expression Media, enables rapid import, compression and Web publishing of digital video imported from a variety of popular formats into Windows Media Video. Capable of running within desktop clients or Windows Server, Expression Media Encoder is a template driven system that integrates seamlessly into existing web publishing workflows for both live and on-demand content delivery.

The Tarari® Encoder Accelerator dramatically accelerates encoding of high quality standard definition and high definition video using Windows Media Video (WMV), Microsoft's implementation of SMPTE VC-1. The WMV/VC-1 compression technology has been at the forefront of HD video, and Windows Media encoding powered by Tarari has made it significantly easier for film and TV post-production facilities, broadcasters and IPTV providers to have significantly more throughput. The result -- maximizing the return on encoding resources while cutting costs.

Tarari Encoder Accelerator boards and Microsoft Expression Media Encoder will be shown in the Microsoft booth at NAB, LVCC South Hall, booth # SL3213.
