TASER International Comments on National Guidelines Supporting CEW Use in Canada

Guidelines "Significant Step in Strengthening Public Confidence in Law Enforcement Use of This Important Tool"

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - October 18, 2010) - TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR), today issued the following statement on the establishment of new national guidelines for conducted energy weapons (CEWs) use across Canada.

"The new national guidelines will provide greater consistency in public policies related to the deployment of CEW technology to protect lives in Canada," commented Tom Smith, Chairman of TASER International, Inc. "We join Public Safety Minister Vic Toews in recognizing these guidelines as a 'significant step in strengthening public confidence in police use of this important tool.' We further believe these guidelines will help ensure greater transparency and enhance the safe and effective use of TASER® devices to save lives and reduce injuries while also minimizing the potential for inappropriate use," said Smith.

Statistics from the 2009 RCMP report on TASER CEW use illustrate and underscore the importance of the TASER CEW in Canadian law enforcement. In 676 reported CEW uses, there were 183 incidents (27.1 percent) in which members deployed the CEW even though they reported facing a threat of death or grievous bodily harm. Alcohol and/or the use of other substances was suspected or confirmed in 530 incidents (79.6 percent). Persons under the influence of various drugs and those threatening violence represent some of the most challenging and dangerous encounters facing modern policing.

"We are proud that our technology is playing such a vital role in reducing risk, saving lives, and preventing injuries in these volatile and dangerous situations," concluded Mr. Smith.

The national guidelines for the use of CEWs are available on the Public Safety Canada website at: http://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/prg/le/gucew-ldrai-eng.aspx and in French at: http://www.securitepublique.gc.ca/prg/le/gucew-ldrai-fra.aspx.
