Taxpayers' Ombudsman Releases his Special Report "Acting on ATIP"

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 6, 2012) - Canada's Taxpayers' Ombudsman, Mr. J. Paul Dubé, today releases his Special Report "Acting on ATIP," which examines the service issues related to the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) processing of Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) requests.

"A common complaint my Office has received from taxpayers is that they face unreasonable delays in obtaining information through ATIP requests to the CRA. Furthermore, they are often not informed when the CRA is unable to meet the extended deadline for providing information," said Mr. Dubé. "Access to information should be a high priority for the CRA as well as providing that information in a timely manner."

This report contains recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue on how the CRA can improve its service to Canadians making requests for information pursuant to the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
