TCS Awarded Wireless Internet Gateway Patent

Patented Invention Used to Deliver Internet Data to Wireless Devices

ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - June 5, 2007) - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued the Company patent number 7,228,333 for "Wireless Internet Gateway."

The invention describes a gateway that bridges the gap between a carrier's internal network elements and external Internet destinations. The patent discloses enabling technology for a variety of Internet applications, including a gateway that allows e-mail and instant messages to be delivered between wireless devices and the Internet. Specifically, the invention provides a portal to Short Message Peer-to-Peer protocol (SMPP), Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and other protocol messages using Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI) techniques. The patent also allows for parameters to be established for communications such as message priority level and callback number, as well as time and receipt confirmation.
