TCS Introduces Wireless Point-to-Point Link for Commercial and Government Organizations at SATELLITE 2008

COTS-Based System Extends Local Area Networks to Deployed Remote Locations for Secure and Reliable Communications; Offers Instant Command and Control Capability

ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - February 26, 2008) - SATELLITE 2008, BOOTH # 627 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced the immediate availability of TCS Wireless Point-to-Point Link (WPPL). The TCS WPPL provides communicators with secure point-to-point and point-to-multipoint, line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight transmission of voice, video and data communications. Developed to satisfy critical last-mile communications for the Department of Defense (DoD), the TCS WPPL allows communicators to extend their Local Area Network (LAN) to deployed remote locations by providing services over terrestrial microwave radio links.

Reliable and uninterrupted communications in the field is an essential function for many commercial and public-sector organizations; from retail and construction to the park service to intelligence and military operations. Currently, the TCS WPPL is in use by the U.S. Marine Corps in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) to enable both data and voice connectivity for deployed Marine Corps units.

"The TCS WPPL is a cost-effective solution to extend the reach of a satellite-based LAN or main hub site to a tactical, remote location without having to deploy Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) at each remote site," said Michael Bristol, Senior Vice President, TCS Government Services Group. "This ultimately provides a reliable and secure mobile command and control capability that supersedes conventional two-way or land mobile radio systems by allowing the transmission of more diverse types of data."

Redline and Harris radios mounted on the 10 meter adjustable mast allow for Internet Protocol (IP) data transmission within a WPPL network through a line-of-sight / non-line-of-sight transmission extending up to 35 miles point-to-point or 15 miles point-to-multipoint. The TCS WPPL is offered in both the Redline RedCONNEX AN-80i: (5.470 - 5.725 GHz) and Harris RF-7800W (4.4 - 5.0 GHz) frequency bands and transmits data via Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). In addition, the system provides organizations with a data rate of up to 108 Mbps (uncoded burst rate) which is greater data throughput than any satellite solution.
