TDI Adds 100 mm (4-Inch) AlN-Based Semi Insulating Wafers to Substrate Production Line

SILVER SPRING, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 8, 2006 -- Technologies and Devices International, Inc., a privately held Maryland corporation (TDI), today announced that sample quantities of 100 mm (4-inch) diameter AlN-based semi insulating substrates are available for order. Semi insulating AlN-based substrates are suited for high power high frequency transistors and amplifiers. Future applications may include certain types of optoelectronic devices, including high power lasers, operating in ultra violet spectrum region. The new 100 mm substrates compliment TDI's current 2-inch and 3-inch AlN-based product line.

New substrate consists of 10 - 20 microns of single crystal AlN film deposited on an electrically conductive 100 mm (4-inch) silicon carbide (SiC) substrate. AlN-on-SiC substrates have very good lattice and thermal match to GaN-based devices. They also combine the unique thermal conductivity of SiC and the exceptionally high intrinsic electrical resistivity of AlN. The thickness of the AlN film is sufficient to provide excellent electrical insulation and low current leakage for high frequency devices.
