Teachers learn how to put kids in motion

ETFO offers professional upgrading courses Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 14, 2005) - Starting in September all elementary school children in Ontario are to receive 20 minutes of physical activity every day. For teachers who need help to get ready the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ottawa Carleton Teacher Local are offering a summer workshop focusing on quality daily physical activities.

The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province. Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Hundreds of elementary teachers are expected to take part.

Available courses include a women's leadership institute, principals' qualifications program, and credit courses.

What: Don't Sweat the Active Stuff!

When: July 18, 19, and 20

Where: Confederation High School, 1645 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa, Ontario

This active participation course offers innovative games and activities to 'jump start' a physical activity program regardless of the facilities, space, or equipment available. Key principles for organization, safety guidelines, assessment, equity and inclusion will be covered.
