Teachers learn to like teaching math

ETFO offers professional upgrading courses Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 6, 2005) - Surprisingly, even some teachers don't love math. Learning to turn dread into delight is the focus of a summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) in partnership with the Simcoe County ETFO Teacher Local.

The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province. Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Hundreds of elementary teachers are expected to take part.

Available courses include a women's leadership institute, principals' qualifications program, and credit courses.

ETFO and the Simcoe county ETFO Teacher Local are offering:

What: Around the Strands in Three Days.

This hands-on, interactive course will provide an opportunity to experiment with engaging math games, manipulatives, and activities relevant to all math strands. Participants will investigate math communication, problem solving, and open-ended assessment opportunities while looking at the qualities of an effective math classroom.
