TEACHING CHILDREN TO LIVE...

Teaching children to live in the Global Village Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 28, 2005) - We live in a global village and today's children need to learn about the ties that connect us all.

Showing teachers how to incorporate world issues into their daily instruction is the focus of a summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO).

The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province. Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Hundreds of elementary teachers are expected to take part.

Available courses include a women's leadership institute, principals' qualifications program, and credit courses.

Young learners can develop a deeper awareness about world issues and teachers can make these lessons part of their daily instruction. This course looks at incorporating important concepts such as equity, global interdependence, commonality within diversity, biocentrism, systems and future thinking into daily lessons.
