Team of Top Arizona Podiatric Doctors Host the First-Ever Free "Back-to-School" Foot Health Screening for Families, Saturday, July 19, 2014

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Jul 2, 2014) - To raise awareness about foot health and foot alignment in children and adults, a local team of top podiatric doctors is hosting Arizona's first-ever free family foot screening on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at two valley Jumpstreet locations.

Dr. Alan Discont, President of the Arizona Podiatric Medical Association, says his team wants families to start the upcoming school year on the right foot (pun intended!). One key condition the screening will detect is misaligned feet. A common sign of misaligned feet is hyperpronation, where the ankles roll inwards towards each other, often resulting in excessive wear on the inner edge of shoe heels. Other symptoms may include fallen arches, bunions, heel spurs, hammertoes and growing pains. Misaligned feet may also cause seemingly unrelated pains.

"When you have misaligned feet, it forces the body to compensate by putting excessive strain on the heels, ankles, knees, hips and back, often leading to pain in these areas," says Discont. "Your feet are literally the foundation of your body and should be the first check point for pain."

GraMedica, a global orthopedic device company, is sponsoring the event. Dr. Michael E. Graham, podiatric surgeon, founder and president of GraMedica, says the company's goal is to empower families by providing innovative surgical options that improve quality of life. One highly acclaimed product is GraMedica's HyProCure.

Slightly smaller than the tip of your little finger, HyProCure is a titanium stent that's inserted in a naturally occurring space below the ankle bone. Once in place, the stent realigns the foot and restores natural joint motion. HyProCure is FDA-cleared and is implanted during a minimally invasive, 20-minute procedure. HyProCure has been used successfully since 2004 in nearly 30,000 patients from ages 3 to 94 years-old in more than 43 countries.

Graham, a sought-after, international medical lecturer, hopes the free foot health check will encourage families to take part in the 10-minute, kid-friendly screening.

"An average person takes thousands of steps a day. When those steps start to hurt, the quality of every aspect of your life is compromised," says Graham. "For that reason, our doctors will be on hand to speak to families and offer possible options. We want every person to have the best chance at a pain-free, active life."

No purchase is necessary to get screened and "walk-ups" are welcomed. Each participant will also receive a gift of a one-hour all-access jumping, compliments of Jumpstreet, as well as a chance to win several valuable prizes including the grand prize of a two-night vacation package at JW Marriott Desert Ridge for a family of four in Phoenix (valued at $689).
