Team Wiggle Triathletes Prepare for ITU World Championship Grand Final

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 9, 2010) - Wiggle-sponsored triathletes Stuart Hayes and Jodie Stimpson say they are feeling strong ahead of this weekend's ITU World Championship Grand Final in Budapest, Hungary. The race is the seventh and final event in the ITU World Championship Series and will see the best of the best do battle to take the prestigious world title.

Hayes caused an upset at the last round in Kitzbuhel, Austria, attacking on the bike and holding strong on the run to take his first major win - so he's hoping to find this form once again on Saturday (August 11).

He said: "I'm definitely in great shape. Preparation has gone well and I've had some great training days since Kitzbuhel. I'm very excited about the World Championships this weekend. I missed out on the Grand Final last year because I felt I wasn't in good enough shape, but things are different this time around."

Hayes has been sponsored by Wiggle, the UK's number one online cycle and road bike retailer, for several seasons. He said: "I'm hugely grateful to Wiggle for their support and loyalty. It makes a big difference. It has also helped that I've had a strong group of guys to train with over the past few weeks and they have really pushed me in every hard session. I feel this has taken me to a new level."

A formidable cyclist and one of the strongest riders on the ITU circuit, Hayes will be in action on his Focus Izalco Extreme. He said: "It looks like a great course and very technical. It's just lacking hills on the bike. I'm in good form but you need to have a bit of luck too - and when an opportunity looks you in the face you have to take it."

Jodie Stimpson, a newcomer this season to Team Wiggle, will be racing in the women's event on Sunday afternoon and says she is "raring to go". She said: "My preparation has gone really well and has left me feeling strong in all three disciplines so I am going into the race with confidence."

She added: "I'm really excited about Budapest. I have had a great domestic season this year - winning Blenheim and coming second at London Tri - but I seem to have had some bad luck in the World Championship Series, so this is something I'll be looking to put right this weekend. The world's best athletes will be there and I'll be raring to go."

The men's elite race starts at 12.05pm UK time on Saturday; the women's elite race begins at 1pm UK time on Sunday.
