Team Wiggle's Matt Page Prepares to Take on the World

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 28, 2010) - Team Wiggle's Matt Page is putting the finishing touches to his training ahead of the biggest race of his career so far - the Solo 24 hour World MTB Championships in Australia.

Matt, who is the reigning UK Solo 24 hour champion, says he is ready to take on the best riders in the world. The Welshman, who is already Down Under ahead of the race in Canberra on October 8-10, is hoping to come away with a podium finish. More than 400 riders are expected to compete in the solo event, which will push athletes to their limits, physically and mentally.

Matt said: "I'm feeling a real mix of emotions at the moment. I'm nervous as it is the biggest race of my career but I'm excited too at the prospect of taking on the best riders in the world."

Wiggle shipped Matt's two custom-built Focus First Extreme mountain bikes to Australia ahead of his departure, along with most of his kit including Exposure lights, Torq nutrition and Mobi washer. Matt said: "Wiggle's support has been amazing, I am hugely grateful for all their help. I couldn't believe that just five days after dropping off my mountain bikes and kit at Wiggle HQ, it all arrived in Sydney. No wonder so many Aussies use Wiggle!"

Wiggle mountain bike mechanic Ben Jeffery will travel to Australia for the race to assist Matt and his fiancée Nia. Together Nia and Ben will form the backbone of Matt's slick pit set-up.

On his chance of winning, Matt said: "I wouldn't consider travelling to the other side of the world if I didn't think I stood a good chance, but the Australian racers are among the best in the world and on home turf will be tough to beat. I'm hoping for a top five finish, although a place on the podium would be fantastic."

He added: "If things go well then who knows what the future might hold, but right now I really feel like I can compete with the best in the world - and hopefully beat them!"
