TeamCalifornia Begins Spring Membership Drive

Marketing and Economic Development Alliance Provides Cities, Companies and Business Development Organizations Broad Scale Outreach to Leverage Marketing Dollars; State of California Partnership Extends Member Value

MONTEREY, CA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2009) - TeamCalifornia, an organization bringing together economic development organizations from across the state to market their communities for business investment and job creation, today kicked off an aggressive statewide membership drive during its spring executive board meeting being held today in Monterey, Calif.

Driven by the need to mitigate pervasive economic challenges faced by municipalities and economic development organizations, the membership drive highlights the value of the synergy created by the collective outreach of member entities.

"TeamCalifornia makes it possible for economic development organizations to combine their business retention, development and attraction dollars," said Mike Ammann, president of TeamCalifornia and president and CEO of the Solano County Economic Development Corporation. "This provides a variety of entities a strong voice to the rest of the world that 'California is open for business!' Participation in tradeshows, advertisements in targeted publications and inclusion in an online news portal, all combine to provide a powerful physical and virtual presence that they would not otherwise be able to achieve," said Ammann.

Collaborations Reinforcing California's Business Brand

Recently, TeamCalifornia began a partnership with the State of California's Business, Transportation & Housing Agency (BTH). The two organizations formally committed to jointly market and promote California.

As a first step, TeamCalifornia has collaborated with BTH to design and launch a new business brand campaign. The campaign -- to debut May 2009 -- will communicate significant California business messages and will allow local communities and businesses to leverage market opportunities.

"Governor Schwarzenegger has designated California's Business, Transportation and Housing Agency as the primary state agency for facilitating economic development. As such, it has our highest priority," said Brian McGowan, deputy secretary for Economic Development and Commerce at the State of California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.

"Statewide collaboration -- in which we can work together in new, constructive ways -- is key to ensure success with our efforts. Serving as advocates and resources for business development in California, TeamCalifornia's membership knows how to expedite projects and are invaluable sources of information for site location assistance anywhere in the state. Our partnership with TeamCalifornia creates conditions in which we can amplify these activities -- and leverage recognizable and consistent messages -- to further mine awareness about California as a top-tier location for business and talent, nationally and internationally," McGowan said.

The partnership campaign, highlighting the value and differential advantages of doing business in California, will be available for members to customize for their own outreach.

BIO, the world's top biotech gathering -- TeamCalifornia was the anchor organization within the BIO California Pavilion and collaborated with Bio-associations, communities and life science businesses, while showcasing biotech luminaries as well as the guest of honor: Governor Schwarzenegger.

CoreNet Global Summit -- TeamCalifornia members were able to take part in a California Site Selectors Roundtable Luncheon where members were face-to-face with key commercial and corporate real estate decision-makers.

Renewable Energy Tradeshows -- Via TeamCalifornia, members had access to key cleantech entrepreneurs and decision-makers at Solar, Intersolar and Solar Power International, the largest U.S. solar business-to-business show. Lt. Governor John Garamendi joined TeamCalifornia members at the conference and represented their interests at an exclusive VIP dinner with key industry leaders.

China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) -- Working with BTH's International Trade & Investment, TeamCalifornia members supported and attended the world's largest international investment promotion event aiming at bilateral investment cooperation.

According the Mary Ingersoll, executive director, TeamCalifornia, cities and economic development entities use her organization as a resource to further extend their branding and communications efforts and to secure viable business development leads.
