Tech Council of Maryland Announces New "CFO of the Year" Award for the 23rd Annual Dinner and Tech Awards Celebration

ROCKVILLE, MD--(Marketwire - December 10, 2010) - The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) announced today that it is adding a new award category -- Chief Financial Officer of the Year -- to the awards presented at its prestigious Annual Dinner and Tech Awards Celebration. The award will be presented to a CFO who has made outstanding contributions to his or her company. This new award category is being sponsored by BDO, the world's fifth largest accounting firm and a strong supporter of TCM's mission and programs.

The CFO of the Year will be an individual who has continually demonstrated their integrity, leadership and effective governance based on the highest principles of business and professional ethics. Through his or her business acumen and keen foresight, the CFO of the Year should have guided an organization to a new level of financial achievement.

"A number of factors have made CFOs' jobs more demanding this year -- and thus the 'best of the best' are that much more worthy of being recognized by the Tech Council of Maryland and BDO," said Mark Ellenbogen, assurance partner at BDO USA, LLP, in Bethesda. "Accessing credit and capital -- imperative for local technology company's growth -- has been challenging due to the economic recession, and the uncertainty around corporate taxation legislation and impending accounting changes have added complexity to an already complex job."

"This new award is important to Maryland and the region's companies," said Renée Winsky, CEO of TCM. "We saw a need to recognize the region's CFOs, who are among the best in the country. We believe that the most meaningful recognition a professional can receive is from his or her peers. We look forward to announcing the inaugural winner at this year's Annual Dinner and Tech Awards Celebration."

TCM's Annual Dinner and Tech Awards Celebration, the area's longest running awards gala, is now entering its 23rd year. This year's dinner will be held May 10, 2011 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. For more information about the nomination process or sponsorship opportunities please contact Todd Hayes at (240) 243-4049 or
