"Tech it Away" With Best Buy Canada and Vancouver Schools!

Local students empowered to encourage community to bring unneeded electronic devices to schools for recycling

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 16, 2009) -

Each year Canadians dump more than 144,000 tonnes of e-waste into our landfills - the equivalent of approximately 12,000 empty city buses! In anticipation of Earth Day 2009, Best Buy is challenging three Vancouver area schools (with the support of 16 other partner schools) to round up unneeded electronics and help Best Buy "Tech it Away!"

"Tech it Away" is a Best Buy-driven recycling program that empowers students to host e-waste drives that educate the community on how to properly dispose of their unwanted electronic devices. These schools will encourage the community to bring them as many unneeded electronic products as possible and Best Buy will award thousands of dollars in grants to 19 participating schools in recognition of their environmental efforts. In addition, the school that collects the most electronics for recycling will receive $2,000 to fund a student-led eco-conscious school project.
