'Tech' the Halls: Electronic Items Dominate Online Holiday Gift Shopping

Top 10 Most-Searched Gifts Include Wii, Zune, Xbox and iPod

BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwire - December 11, 2007) - High-tech electronic gifts, no longer just for technophiles, appear to be more popular than ever this holiday gift-giving season. According to Zango (, an online media company, and its comparison shopping tools, the Top 10 most-searched items are all high- tech electronics products, ranging from brand-new releases to tried-and- true favorites.

Nintendo's Wii landed in the top spot, followed by Microsoft's Zune and Xbox, Apple's iPod and Sony's PSP. General categories -- GPS products, laptops and desktop computers -- secured the sixth through eighth spots. The popular games Guitar Hero and Rock Band rounded out the Top 10. Other notable searches just outside the Top 10 focused on Nintendo's DS, the iPhone and MP3 players (generally).

Zango's comparison shopping tools, which enable consumers to compare prices across thousands of online stores, also catalogued which items were most commonly clicked -- in other words, which products most intrigued consumers and caused them to seek more information. Apple's iPod Nano dominated this particular list, followed by laptop and desktop computers, and MP3 players, among others.

"The appetite for consumer electronics products is particularly voracious right now," said Keren Zimmerman, vice president of Zango's comparison shopping and toolbar technologies. Zimmerman noted that online retail sites saw a 24 percent increase in activity from Black Friday (Nov. 22) through Cyber Monday (Nov. 26) as compared to the same dates in October. "With increased demand for a hot item, it can be difficult to find price differentiation," Zimmerman observed. "The Internet, however, enables savvy shoppers to quickly and conveniently comparison shop for the best bargains."

Zango is committed to protecting the privacy of consumers and the companies' desktop advertising programs do not collect personally identifiable information (PII), ever.
