Albert Behr, information and green technology visionary, has been appointed to co-chair the 2007 Companies-to-Watch category of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50. A National Sponsor of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Program, Behr's responsibilities as chairman include helping Deloitte showcase the rapidly growing Canadian green technology sector in the annual awards program.

The first national awards program of its kind to place a strong emphasis on green technology, the 2007 Companies-to-Watch will showcase the most promising and fastest-growing green technology companies. In an expansion of the well-known Deloitte Technology Fast 50, awarded to high-growth IT companies, the new component will recognize successful Canadian green technology firms in business for less than five years. These companies possess intellectual property or proprietary technology that show the potential to make a significant positive impact on both the Canadian economy and the environment.

"Behr & Associates Inc. leads the field in tech business acceleration and investment capital in Canada, and makes green technology a priority in its practice," said John Ruffolo, Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP. "Albert Behr's experience, without a doubt, provides expert leadership for both the IT and green tech aspects of the Companies-to-Watch category. We are very excited to have him involved."

For Behr, the lessons learned in 20 years of practice in the IT market are directly transferable to the emerging green tech market.

"From experience, we know that an effective go-to-market strategy takes promising technology from obscurity to market leadership every time. Our goal is to ensure that promising green and IT companies turn into global market leaders by accelerating time-to-market through proper placement and market reach," said Behr. "Deloitte's new focus on green technologies will help these companies to build strong business strategies and speed time to profitable commercialization. We welcome Deloitte's leadership in this area."

"Among the most important criteria in the Companies-to-Watch program are pace of growth and sustainability," said David Pamenter, Partner at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, also a National Sponsor of the Fast 50 awards. "Behr provides strong leadership for the Companies-to-Watch awards because his own experience has taken him through a similar growth cycle in technology."

"We believe that the green tech boom has the potential to eclipse IT's pace of growth," said Behr. "We are on the brink of huge advances in such areas as resource management, energy technology, water management, and process controls. Canadian engineers have been working on these types of projects for years, and if we are quick and business-focused, Canada will reap significant rewards in the global marketplace."

Some of the country's best and fastest-growing technology firms will be showcased on September 20, 2007, under the Companies-to-Watch awards, part of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50. Nominees are outstanding Canadian-based companies possessing intellectual property or proprietary technology that contributes a significant portion of their individual operating revenues.
