TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 30, 2012) - What do an urban fruit picker, the man who drove Canada's longest ice road in a solar powered car, and a woman developing a board game about public policy have in common? They will all take the stage at the fourth annual TEDxToronto conference, committed to ideas worth spreading.
TEDxToronto is thrilled to announce more speakers for the Oct 26 conference at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, where we will explore the theme of Alchemy.
Marcelo De Luz: The driving force behind the Power of One (XOF1) solar car project, the first electric vehicle to reach the Arctic, and cross the longest ice road in the world, driving 36,200 km using sunshine as fuel. Forbidden to drive his solar car in Ontario, he once pulled XOF1 by hand 503 km to encourage environmental action.
Vasiliki Bednar: An Action Canada Fellow, she's designing a board game that simulates Canadian policy-making and will highlight the joys of contemporary governance.
Laura Reinsborough: Founder and Director of Not Far From The Tree, Toronto's very own fruit picking project. The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including the Gaea Environment Award and a Women of the Earth Award, she is an advocate for "joyful environmentalism".
TEDxToronto will feature 18 speakers, including SlutWalk founders Heather Jarvis and Sonya Barnett, six-year-old gaming app creator Cassie Creighton and celebrity chef Susur Lee.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 27 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.
