Teens Test Auto Skills: CAA North & East Ontario Hosts 14th Annual Student Auto Skills Competition

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 21, 2009) - CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) is thrilled to be hosting the 14th Annual Student Auto Skills Competition at Algonquin College this Thursday, April 23rd , 2009. The goal of this competition is to increase students' awareness of rewarding careers in the automotive industry. More than 60 secondary school students from various Ottawa-area high schools will be participating in this all-day event, which combines serious skills, knowledge evaluation and a healthy dose of friendly competition!

"CAA North & East Ontario is proud to sponsor this fun and educational event," said Korey Kennedy, Manager of Public & Government Affairs for CAANEO. "As an auto club, we recognize the need in the automotive industry for qualified mechanics, and this competition provides an excellent learning opportunity for high school students who are considering pursuing their post-secondary studies in a related field."

Youth from five Ottawa-area high schools will be attending the event (St Peter's, Mother Theresa, Lester B. Pearson, St Mark's and St Patrick's). In the morning, students will be tested on their theoretical knowledge of today's automotive systems with a written exam. Following that, their practical skills will be put to the test in a "Pit Stop Challenge", where teams of two students will be timed as they change tires and conduct other auto repairs. These friendly competitions culminate in an awards presentation at the end of the day.
