Tekelec to Present Revenue-Generating Strategies and New Telco Business Models at Broadband Traffic Management 2012

Diameter Signaling and Policy Are Keys to LTE Service Innovation

MORRISVILLE, NC--(Marketwire - Oct 30, 2012) -  Mobile broadband solutions company Tekelec will present strategies for operators to deliver new innovative mobile data services at the Global Broadband Traffic Management Congress 2012, November 6-8 in London.

The company will discuss how Policy (PCRF) transforms service provider business models and matches subscribers with the timely content they desire. Tekelec will explain its "Policy Everywhere" vision of expanding Policy and analytics functionality to the mobile device, over-the-top (OTT) applications, and mobile advertisers.

In addition, sessions will include findings from the Tekelec LTE Diameter Signaling Index™ linking the explosive growth in Diameter traffic to new service tiers and personalized offers. Diameter is the protocol operators use to send policy, charging, authorization and authentication messages that underpin all mobile data sessions.

Tekelec's research shows that Policy-based messages per second (MPS) will be the biggest contributor by far to Diameter traffic over the forecast period. By 2016, Tekelec forecasts policy to generate more Diameter MPS than online charging, offline charging and mobility combined.

Tekelec is a Gold Sponsor of the show, and will present:

  • "What are the obstacles for two-sided business models?" on a November 6 at 12:30 p.m. panel. Houck Reed, vice president of product management and operations, will discuss innovative models to pay for guaranteed quality of service and incentives for operators to optimize video quality.
  • "Usage of policy to deliver personalized services" on November 6 at 4:50 p.m. Byron Bagaasen, product management director, will show how a policy server provides the foundation for personalized services, citing examples such as shared data plans, video optimization and casual usage.
  • "Managing signaling storms and monetizing mobile data in LTE networks" on November 7 at 9:25 a.m. Mr. Reed will keynote a session showing why Diameter messages are the "good" type of network signaling and explaining the value of the New Diameter Network to manage signaling in 3G and LTE networks and deliver new services to monetize mobile data traffic.

Tekelec leads the Diameter signaling control market with 22 DSR customers, and has a 75 percent to 85 market share according to industry analyst firm Exact Ventures. The company was also recognized as the leading independent policy vendor by market share for the third consecutive year, according to research and consulting firm Analysys Mason.
