Tekelec to Review Survey Data on New Mobile Video Pricing Plan Options

White Paper and Webinar to Identify "Win-Win" Pricing Plans

MORRISVILLE, NC--(Marketwire - January 13, 2011) - Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the broadband data management company, will host a webinar on mobile video usage, operator revenues and innovative new pricing plans, based on a consumer survey conducted by industry analyst firm Strategy Analytics. Chris Ambrosio, executive director of wireless for Strategy Analytics, and Randy Fuller, director of strategic marketing at Tekelec, will present "Mobile Video: Measuring Consumer Value and Tradeoffs" on January 19 at 10 a.m. ET. Registration is available here, and all registrants will receive a complimentary white paper detailing the survey findings.

Ambrosio and Fuller will outline key points from the Strategy Analytics survey to give operators new strategies to balance revenues and costs associated with delivering mobile video services. One option the findings revealed, for example, identifies the incremental price subscribers would be willing to pay for unlimited mobile browsing if mobile video usage is limited.

"The research shows several very interesting opportunities to allow subscribers to personalize their services and pricing while at the same time providing better economics for operators," said Ambrosio of Strategy Analytics. "These examples are the rare kind of trades where both parties are truly better off."

"The divergence of operator revenue and network cost is especially acute in mobile video delivery, requiring new ways to price the service," said Tekelec's Fuller. "Operators are further challenged by video's relationship with quality of service, where even the smallest issue causes a noticeable drop in quality. Strategy Analytics' research shows a promising approach to solving this dilemma."

Strategy Analytics surveyed mobile subscribers who use mobile video at least a few times per month on an Apple iPhone®, Android™-based smartphones and/or a USB modem. Respondents came from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K., due to the relatively advanced stages of their mobile broadband and online video markets.

Tekelec's Mobile Video solution allows mobile operators to overcome the challenges of deploying mobile video and create services that align revenue and network costs with network usage patterns. Tekelec combines its policy management, subscriber data management (SDM) and performance management solutions to implement flexible pricing plans and service options while analyzing mobile video performance by subscriber, groups of subscribers, devices and geography.
