Tekelec Wins "Excellence in Innovation for Telecom Services" Award at India's 5th National Telecom Awards

Recognized for Nationwide Number Portability Rollout Across Nine Operators

MORRISVILLE, NC--(Marketwire - Jun 22, 2011) - Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the mobile broadband solutions company, received the "Excellence in Innovation for Telecom Services" award at India's 5th National Telecom Awards. The award was given by the Communication Media and Infrastructure (CMAI) Association of India in May.

Tekelec's mobile number portability (MNP) solutions were deployed by nine operators including Bharti airtel Limited, Reliance Communications (RCOM), Tata Teleservices Limited, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), Aircel, Uninor, MTS India, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) and STel Ltd. The technology was integrated into existing networks to streamline implementation and provide a cost-effective solution. According to the Telecoms Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), more than 10 million subscribers have ported their numbers since mobile number portability was introduced in January.

"India's mobile number portability deployment is among the largest and most complex in the world, and Tekelec is honored to be recognized for our innovative approach," said Rajesh Kaul, Tekelec's vice president of the Indian region. "Our number portability success is a testament to our reliability and scalability for networks of any size, and our unique core network architecture."

Tekelec's global number portability market share -- as measured by enabled subscribers -- for real-time connection number portability solutions is 48%. This gives Tekelec the world's largest market share, according to the "Number Portability Research Note" published by research and consultancy firm Analysys Mason. Through the first quarter of 2011, Tekelec had 114 number portability customers in 41 countries.

Tekelec's number portability solutions support SS7, Electronic Numbering Mapping System (ENUM), and SIP networks for voice, short message service (SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS) and pre-paid calls over LTE, IMS, GSM, CDMA, VoIP, cable and fixed line networks. By combining these solutions with Tekelec's Subscriber Data Management (SDM) products, service providers can also ensure data service portability across multiple connected devices.
