Tekelec's Subscriber Data Management Solution Surpasses 225 Million Subscriber Licenses

Innovative Use Cases Yield Seven New Tekelec SDM Customers, Including Three Tier-One Operators in 2010

BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) -  Mobile World Congress Hall 1 Stand 1F44/1G49 -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the broadband data management company, has surpassed the 225 million subscriber license mark for its subscriber data management (SDM) products on the strength of three new tier-one operators in the United States, India and Brazil. Since the May 2010 acquisition of Blueslice Networks, Tekelec has also sold its SDM technology to a major Western European operator running an LTE network, a Caribbean-based multi-national operator, and two additional operators.

"These subscriber data management deals showcase a wide range of business use cases centered on improving the subscriber quality of experience," said Ron de Lange, executive vice president, global product solutions at Tekelec. "Our SDM footprint has rapidly grown to over 225 million subscriber licenses due to our unique understanding of how to scale and integrate network and subscriber intelligence across the world's largest networks."

The scope of use cases deployed by Tekelec's new customers highlight the importance of consolidating subscriber profiles, managing state and usage data to make real-time policy decisions, and dynamically allowing changes in subscriber preferences, thereby improving service portability across 2G, 3G, IMS and LTE networks. Multiple customers, including a tier-one operator, purchased multiple licenses per subscriber. The use cases include:

  • Home Location Register (HLR) and Home Subscriber Server (HSS) replacement solutions that consolidate 2G, 3G and IMS subscribers in a centralized SDM solution including seamless subscriber migration services.
  • The Subscriber Profile Repository (SPR), the underlying database technology for policy management, for managing a multi-million subscriber deployment at an Indian tier-one operator.
  • The HSS for a Western European LTE network provides seamless mobility and service continuity across 2G, 3G and LTE domains.
  • The User Data Repository (UDR), a next-generation consolidated database, for managing multiple subscriber profiles across a Brazilian tier-one operator's policy management system, number portability registry, and HLR Router.
  • An innovative IMS routing solution to mediate calls between circuit-switched and packet-switched domains, for a U.S. tier-one operator.
  • Low-cost roaming solutions for subscribers traveling between multiple nations and islands in the Caribbean, South America and Europe -- ensuring continuation of services when subscribers visit roaming partners.

Tekelec's SDM product portfolio consolidates and manages subscriber profile information to deliver personalized, revenue-generating services. Subscriber data includes location, network authentication, access preferences, services, identities and presence as a single logical profile across multiple network types. Tekelec stores subscriber data in a back-end database, the Subscriber Data Server (SDS), which supports multiple front-end applications such as: HLR; HSS; authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) server; application servers; and web servers. The platform can be deployed in mobile, VoIP, fixed mobile convergence (FMC), and machine-to-machine (M2M) networks.

"A unified view of a subscriber's service profile, preferences, and network/service usage enables internal marketing organizations and customer service representatives to have a single view of a subscriber across multiple services, technologies, and even regions," said Shira Levine, directing analyst, next gen OSS and policy at industry analyst firm Infonetics, in the "Subscriber Data Management Software and Services" October 2010 report. "That information can then be used to leverage cross-sell and upsell opportunities, create value-added services, and provide support for single sign-on to customers."
