Tektronix Launches Cutting-Edge Monitoring Tools at IBC 2011

New Products Address the Latest Challenges in System Installation and Maintenance, Broadcast, and Quality of Experience Monitoring

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - Sep 8, 2011) - Tektronix, the market leader in broadcast video test, monitoring and analysis solutions, announced today that the company will launch a number of new products at IBC (September 9-13, Amsterdam, Hall 8 - Stand 8.C75), including the new WFM2200 portable waveform monitor, which is designed to help broadcast engineers and technicians working in the field. Other important product announcements from Tektronix include the new 3G-SDI capable SDI7 module for its TG700 Sync Pulse Generator and the new MTS4000 MPEG Analyzer for IP video quality and 10G network monitoring. At the show Tektronix will also be showcasing important enhancements to its Cerify® SW file-based analysis solution, and Sentry® digital content monitors.

New Fully Featured Portable Waveform Monitors Help Engineers in the Field
The new portable WFM2200 HD-, SD-, and optional 3G-SDI capable waveform monitor is ideal for technicians who need a user-friendly, portable tool for system installation and maintenance. The WFM2200 features a large, bright LED back-lit display, and a replaceable and rechargeable battery which eliminates down time. The sharp "CRT-like" display helps broadcast engineers and technicians to quickly identify signal issues and determine problems within the video and audio signals. Signal generation, paired with waveform analysis, is ideal for verifying link performance between two broadcast facility devices. The WFM2200 displays the external reference as an analog signal to check the quality of the video sync pulse signal, and the Tektronix patented timing display helps to ensure facility system timing.

Designed for intuitive operation, the WFM2200 makes it easy for technicians to quickly and efficiently find, diagnose and fix signal or content quality problems in the field. The WFM2200 offers support for ANC Data and SDI data monitoring, including closed caption and subtitle decoding, active format description detection and decoding, and VANC (vertical ancillary) data testing capabilities.

Video Generator Module Paves the Way to 3G-SDI
The new SDI7 module for the TG700 Multi-format Video Generator provides support for a wide variety of formats and standards (including 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI) in a single module, which gives customers greater flexibility in generating a range of test patterns. The 3G-SDI generation capability of the SDI7 allows broadcasters to configure their systems in preparation for the roll-out of 3G-SDI when the time is right. The circle, multi-language text, and color logo overlays can be applied to the generated test signals to check aspect ratio, identify streams or apply station logos.

New MTS4000 MPEG Analyzer for IP Video Quality and 10G Network Monitoring
Multi-screen video delivery of SD and HD content has driven the investment in 10G infrastructure. The new MTS4000 MPEG Analyzer is ideal for the analysis and troubleshooting of audio/video and transport problems in 10G networks for fault isolation and root cause analysis. Targeting a range of design, validation and test, field diagnostics and troubleshooting applications, the new MTS4000 offers unparalleled analysis capabilities for examining the video and audio quality of IP and RF video services.

The low entry price and modular nature of the MTS4000 offers a wide range of connectivity and software analysis options that allow complete customization to meet all application needs and budgets. Network interface options include 10G IP, ATSC 8-VSB, DVB-C, DVB-S2, and a Quad port ASI interface. Cross-layer and cross-domain analysis of the video and audio quality is possible through an extensive software suite that includes real-time video and audio QoE analysis, picture quality analysis (based on the human vision model), and advanced Elementary Stream analysis including H.264 intra profile and SVC support.

Cerify® Software Version 7.3 Targets Audio and Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis
The new version 7.3 of Cerify SW (a software solution for file-based content verification) supports the latest audio loudness measurement and implements Photosensitive Epilepsy (PSE) analysis to make it easier for UK and Japanese broadcasters (among others) to meet regulatory requirements. It also supports cross-track audio loudness testing for implementations such as HD MXF, where channels in a group are spread across many tracks. New standards supported include the European Broadcasting Union's latest R128 Audio Loudness recommendations, algorithms recommended in the ITU-R BS.1770-2 specification, and the Peak Program Meter (PPM) audio ballistics measurement in the IEC-60268-10 standard. Cerify v7.3 integrates the PSE analysis engine used in the well-known Cambridge Research Harding FPA solution, helping to prevent the broadcast of those flashes and pops that are known to trigger epileptic seizures.

Sentry Expands Capabilities for the European Market
Tektronix has also announced significant new capabilities to its award-winning Sentry digital content monitor. Adding to its leading audio and video QoE and QoS monitoring capabilities, Sentry now supports enhanced real-time perceptual video quality and audio analysis (including H.264 video and AAC type audio) on up to 250 MPTS/SPTS input streams simultaneously.
