TeleCommunication Systems Issued U.S. Patent for Deployable Secure Communication System

ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - August 19, 2009) - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,577,835 for a "Deployable Secure Communication System."

This TCS patent describes methods and apparatus that enable a portable, deployable communication system that can route secure communications via the Internet. To do so, the highly mobile system uses an encryption device to provide secure bulk data which is then encapsulated in Internet Protocol (IP) packets. This data can then be routed over the public Internet.

The described methods and apparatus support a system for secure network functionality contained in a single, portable case. The system is designed to take advantage of virtually any connection to the Internet. Uses include emergency response, news reporting, public safety, field surveys and other situations in which a remote user needs to transmit and receive confidential data without access to a direct, secure network connection.

"The Internet is the fastest growing and most available communication medium for sending large amounts of data," said Drew Morin, Chief Technology Officer of TCS. "Our technology enables remote users to take advantage of the broad, world wide availability of Internet connectivity to establish secure communications for VoIP, video and data transmission."

TCS now holds 89 patents with over 250 applications pending.
