Telecommunications de l'Est implements its digital network

The Government of Canada grants funding to this Lower St. Lawrence enterprise

RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Nov. 8, 2016) - Digital technologies are changing the business environment around the world, and these changes are providing Canadian enterprises with key opportunities. The Government of Canada is determined to support enterprises that promote innovation through the acquisition of digital skills.

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon-La Mitis-Matane-Matapédia, announced that Télécommunications de l'Est has been granted $200,000 in financial assistance, in the form of a repayable contribution, to improve the enterprise's productivity through the implementation of a new digital network.

Created in 1976, Télécommunications Denis Gignac Inc., also known as Télécommunications de l'Est (TDE), provides telecommunications systems that operate in areas not served by the traditional networks. Télécommunications de l'Est is the main provider of specialized analog radio communication services in the Lower St. Lawrence, Gaspésie and northern New Brunswick and on the North Shore. The funding granted under CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) will enable TDE to acquire the equipment required to launch Nomade, its digital network.

In adapting its service offer to the evolving needs of its clientele, TDE is certain to increase its productivity and create many opportunities that will benefit its clientele and the population of eastern Quebec."

Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon-La Mitis-Matane-Matapédia

"As the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, my goal is to help enterprises grow, innovate and export so that they can create good-quality jobs and wealth for Canadians. For the past five years, the digital economy has accounted for over 4.7 per cent of global GDP and 21 per cent of GDP growth. A strong digital economy requires a good foundation. That is why the Government of Canada is pleased to support enterprises such as TDE that want to enter the new economy."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED

"There is economic activity all across this vast area. People work here or engage in recreational activities. The project announced today provides a real solution to communication needs that could not be met by today's cell or satellite technologies for a realistic implementation cost."

Daniel Gignac, Director General, Télécommunications de l'Est
