Television Premiere Features TASER AXON On-Officer Camera

Premiering Sunday, April 17, POLICE POV Shows One of Law Enforcement's Most Valuable New Tools for Evidence With TASER's On-Officer Camera System

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - Apr 15, 2011) -

TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR), a global provider of safety technologies that prevent conflict and protect life, is proud to announce the premiere of POLICE POV, which features footage captured by the TASER® AXON™ on-officer camera system. Utilizing law enforcement video from the point of view of the officer, the series launches a new era of law enforcement television programming with the next bold leap in first-person action with POLICE POV. The series premieres with back-to-back episodes on truTV, Sunday, April 17, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).

  • POLICE POV features law enforcement using TASER's AXON on-officer camera system that will provide viewers with thrilling, up-close access to all the drama, suspense and action experienced by police officers on the job. The footage, which is gathered as evidence by law enforcement agencies, illustrates dramatic law enforcement action from the officer's point-of-view (POV) during every chase, shootout, takedown or confrontation as they patrol the streets of America's cities.
  • The law enforcement footage gathered using TASER AXON cameras comes to television through exclusive access with law enforcement around the country from the Emmy®-winning BASE Productions, Inc.'s new series on truTV, POLICE POV.
  • POLICE POV was created by John Brenkus and Mickey Stern who serve as executive producers for BASE Productions.

Because the majority of what law enforcement officers do is away from the car TASER International's AXON system was designed for comfort, convenience and performance but most importantly to capture video from the vantage point of the officer's perspective.

  • With TASER AXON and EVIDENCE.COM™ there's an "end-to-end system" solution by providing seamless yet secure management and storage of digital evidence.

    • AXON on-officer camera captures digital video
    • Charging stations provides secure docking and encrypted uploading transfers

  • Prevention: The AXON system acts as a deterrent, often times preventing incidents from escalating, by letting everyone know their actions are being recorded.

  • Resolution: When disputes do arise, EVIDENCE.COM preserves video evidence that can be easily managed and retrieved to show what really happened.

  • Reduction in false complaints: Most video provides documentation of officers doing their jobs and conducting themselves as professionals even under adverse and hazardous conditions. Citizens are less likely to file false complaints when they know they are being videotaped, thus decreasing the amount of cases in court and dollars spent fighting them.

  • Decreasing litigation costs: Including but not limited to settlement claims, defense council costs, increased prosecution rates and officers away on administrative leave. An IACP study found that police are exonerated in 93% of complaints when video is available.

Rick Smith, TASER International CEO & founder: "We are truly excited that one of our products is featured in use by law enforcement agencies in a television series produced by industry leaders BASE Productions. POLICE POV gives our law enforcement customers a direct outlet to tell their riveting stories of heroism and self-sacrifice. Too often, law enforcement is characterized in a negative light by the news media, which tends to focus on controversial allegations made against law enforcement. POLICE POV will provide a new platform of long-form television to show the public the challenges and heroic actions of law enforcement, recorded from the visual perspective of the men and women who put their lives on the line every day."

Mickey Stern, co-owner and executive producer of BASE Productions: "We are thrilled to work with cutting-edge industry leaders like truTV and TASER. Law enforcement programming is among the most successful genres in television. Tapping into the newest technologies used by law enforcement and reinventing how law enforcement is seen on television is a challenging and exciting opportunity."
