TELUS Invests $1 Million in Greening Montreal

Innovative Partnership Between the Ville de Montreal, la Societe de Verdissement du Montreal Metropolitain and TELUS

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 1, 2006) - The mayor of Montreal, Mr. Gerald Tremblay, the chairman of the Board of the Societe de verdissement du Montreal metropolitain, Mr. Louis L. Roquet, and the president of TELUS Quebec, Ms. Karen Radford, today announced the creation of an innovative partnership that supports their joint commitment to improve the quality of the environment and the quality of life of Montrealers. TELUS will invest $1 million over a three-year period towards a newly created Montreal Green Fund managed by the Societe de verdissement du Montreal metropolitain. This fund will be used to enhance green spaces and to help the city adapt to climate changes by planting vegetation in an effort to, among other goals, reduce heat islands.

"We are delighted to be partnering with TELUS and the Societe de verdissement du Montreal metropolitain. This partnership will allow the city of Montreal to take a step toward meeting its commitment to make Montreal greener, which is beneficial to everyone," declared Mayor Tremblay. "With its generous contribution, TELUS is leading the way towards the sustainable development of our community, which will in turn enrich the inheritance of our future generations."

The city signed a contract with the Societe de verdissement du Montreal metropolitain last October during which it committed to allocating $250,000 to the project over two years. TELUS is the first private sector company to contribute to the greening project that which was announced at the signing.

"At TELUS, we believe that in order to succeed in business, we must 'do good' in the communities where we live, work and serve. We are very proud to invest in the quality of the environment and the quality of the lives of today's Montrealers and those of tomorrow," said Ms. Radford. "The long term benefits of our partnership with the city of Montreal and the Societe de verdissement du Montreal metropolitain will bear witness to TELUS' commitment to being a premier corporate citizen."

Mr. Roquet commends TELUS' pioneering move and invites Montreal businesses to integrate greening into their own sustainable development program as a priority. "Planting trees means more than embellishing the environment, it also means enabling your company to play a role in the adaptation to climate changes. I invite all Montreal businesses to follow TELUS' example and contribute towards the greening of Montreal with us. Today, we all agree that it is an investment in the quality of our lives. In the near future, we will probably all agree that it is also an investment towards maintaining our economic health," said Mr. Roquet.

The next step for the city of Montreal, the Societe de verdissement du Montreal metropolitain and TELUS is to focus on innovative projects.
