TELUS Unveils New Portfolio of Leading-Edge Cloud Services for Canadian Businesses

Innovative new offering makes it easier for Canadian businesses to harness the full potential of cloud technology to increase business agility and decrease IT costs

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 3, 2015) - TELUS (TSX:T)(NYSE:TU) has expanded its cloud portfolio to offer Canadian businesses a full suite of managed Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions that includes public and private cloud options, as well as Canada's first hybrid cloud offering built on the Industry-leading Cisco Cloud Architecture for the Microsoft Cloud Platform.

In the face of unprecedented data storage demands driven by mobile, social, Internet of Things and Big Data applications, as well as growing IT security concerns, Canadian businesses will increasingly rely on the cloud to meet their IT needs. IDC Canada predicts that over the next five years, cloud spending will outpace non-cloud IT spending by a factor of eight, and by 2019 Canadian businesses will be spending more than $1.9 billion on cloud deployments(1). As Canadian businesses increasingly embrace the cloud, TELUS is helping organizations build their adoption strategy and accelerate their migration.

"Canadian businesses are in the midst of a digital revolution and IT leaders are being asked to manage increasingly complex environments amidst aging infrastructure and limited resources," said Tom Jolly, vice president of Managed IT and Cloud Services, TELUS. "The innovation of our cloud portfolio, paired with our deep expertise in network connectivity, security, managed IT and cloud advisory services, allows us to work closely with our customers to understand their needs and build a flexible hybrid IT model that optimizes their investments and drives agility in their business."

TELUS' cloud services portfolio includes a full suite of solutions that enable organizations to build flexible and secure IT environments that can quickly adapt to meet business needs and drive operational efficiencies.

  • TELUS Public Cloud offers cost-effective shared compute and storage infrastructure for elastic, non-critical workloads.
  • TELUS Private Cloud delivers dedicated infrastructure for mission-critical applications with heightened security or compliance requirements.
  • TELUS Hybrid Cloud provides the ultimate flexibility to combine private and public cloud delivered from TELUS' Canadian data centres and Microsoft Azure into one integrated solution with a single management portal - giving IT departments quick access to on-demand compute capacity and the power to seamlessly provision or move workloads between their cloud deployments.

TELUS Hybrid Cloud is built on technology from trusted industry leaders - Cisco and Microsoft. Cisco Cloud Architecture for the Microsoft Cloud Platform is a pre-integrated, tested and validated solution that enables TELUS to rapidly deliver cloud services. TELUS is the first provider in Canada able to offer this solution through the Microsoft Cloud OS Network, a worldwide group of select service providers that partner closely with Microsoft to offer customers hybrid cloud and Azure-enabled solutions. In November 2015, TELUS earned the distinction of being placed in the Leaders category within the IDC Marketscape: Canadian Hybrid Cloud Services 2015 Vendor Assessment.(2)

"Leading-edge partners like TELUS are committed to bringing intelligent cloud solutions to life for businesses in Canada by delivering Azure-enabled solutions," said Staci Trackey Meagher, Vice President, Enterprise and Partner Group, Microsoft Canada. "TELUS continues to embrace state-of-the-art technology. With their world-class data centres, and deep expertise in managed services, together we are helping to bring innovation to Canadian companies, by speeding up their adoption of cloud services and ultimately helping them be more profitable in a Mobile-first, Cloud-First world."

"TELUS is a proven leader in managing cloud solutions for Canadian businesses, and we knew that its network, security and cloud advisory services would be the perfect match for Cisco Cloud Architecture for the Microsoft Cloud Platform," said Roy Purtill, vice president, Cloud Computing, Cisco Canada. "By combining our industry-leading technologies, Cisco and Microsoft are dramatically accelerating the ability for cloud providers such as TELUS to provide customers with the full spectrum of cloud options - public, private or hybrid - with scalable, highly secure and simpler management."

TELUS Public and Private Cloud services are both currently available. Full commercial availability of TELUS Hybrid cloud will commence in Q1 2016. For more information about the TELUS Cloud Services portfolio, please visit
