Temporary Boat Launch Closure and Alternate Water Access-Timiskaming Ontario Dam Replacement Project

TEMISCAMING, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 9, 2015) -

Editors' Note: There is a map associated with this press release.

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) wishes to advise local residents and boaters that access to the boat launch located on Long Sault Island will be closed from Thursday, July 16 until Monday, July 27 inclusive. The closure of the boat launch is necessary to conduct work related to the Timiskaming Ontario Dam Replacement Project.

An alternate existing boat launch, located in Thorne, Ontario, approximately 1 km south of Long Sault Island along Highway 63, will be available to the users during this period. This alternate site is currently being updated to improve the boat launch area. Signage will be installed to direct people to the alternate location.

Additional closures of the Long Sault boat launch may occur as the project evolves. Public notices will be issued in advance to make sure users can properly plan their trip on the river.

Health and safety is a top priority for PWGSC during this project. Users are therefore encouraged to exercise caution when using the boat access on the island close to the construction zone.
